Food Technology

KS4 have the opportunity to achieve accreditations in Agored Cyrmu units in cake decorating, preparing healthy meals, preparing a meal and Food storage. While completing the accreditations pupils follow recipes to prepare meals based on health eating principles, to include:

  • selecting a recipe
  • washing hands
  • selecting and preparing ingredients
  • selecting and using kitchen equipment
  • using safe chopping skills
  • cooking and presenting healthy food
  • keeping the preparation and cooking area clean

 

Identify the food groups in a model of healthy eating. Identify ways to increase fruit and vegetables in the diet. Modify recipes to meet current healthy eating guidelines. Identify how to store food items in a fridge. Identify hygiene hazards associated with food preparation. Identify safety hazards associated with food preparation. This is also in line with the government’s new healthy schools policy.
